Parkside Purpose Statement

The staff at Parkside School will endeavor to support and assist students in developing their individual, social, emotional and academic needs with the intent of developing well adjusted, responsible and independent individuals.

Parkside School is a wonderful, historic school set in the middle of Summerside, P.E.I. Our school was originally constructed in 1879 and although many renovations have occurred over the years, much of the original character and structure still remains.

We believe that school should not only be an important learning institute but also a place where we come to develop physically, socially and emotionally. To this end, we provide many extra-curricular activities such as; choir, drama, soccer, cross-country, gymnastics, track and field, environment club, crib club, and book club. We also alternate between Science Fair and a Heritage Fair.

We believe it is important to support children in their growth as strong community members, thus we promote reading buddies, peer helpers, and peer mediation. We also participate in a Character Education program in which we hold monthly assemblies, highlight various virtues in our monthly newsletters, read stories in our classrooms associated with virtues and hold discussions about developing good character skills.

At Parkside School we are very fortunate to have an active Home and School Council. Our Home and School supports our school in many ways through the organization of Guest Speakers and the development of special activities within the school. Our annual Family Fun Fair held in June and the Welcome Back Picnic and beach sweep in September are real highlights of our school year.

Our school community consists of students, parents, school branch staff, school staff, and volunteers.
